From TLA: Watt Seconds In The World Of Elinchrom

One of the world's top lighting brand is Elinchrom, and a lot of Tronix Explorer users are Elinchrom users as well. This article might be useful to EL users worldwide.

This is an article from the The Lighting Academy by Robert Mitchell. To read the full article, click here.

==========================

Watt second - a unit of electrical energy equal to the work done when a current of one ampere passes through a resistance of one ohm for one second.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way….

That’s the definition of Watt seconds and even if you understand what it all means, it doesn’t really tell you much because it’s not specifying an output value and there’s no way to make direct comparisons between brands due to the many differences (electrical and mechanical) in design.
Strobes from the same manufacturer and of the same design, however, can be compared, and the Watt second rating becomes useful when trying to determine relative output.
