Role Reversal While it is a known fact that lighting is essential to photography, a lot of times artificial light is used as a substitute for natural sunlight. Although it doesn't seem like it, this shot was taken at 7 in the evening. With a speedlight and some makeshift blinds, this looks like it was taken no later than sunset. To add drama to the shot, old venetian blinds were placed 3 feet in front of a speedlight to get the shadow lines. Taking more than two dozen shots, it was not an easy effect to pull off. Good lighting and dependable gear made it possible. Some people don't realize that it would take a really strong gust of wind to create that effect. In this version, an air blower was set underneath the model to get the same result. Imagine what a hassle it would be to have to wait for a windstorm and shoot in it!
